Mechanical Requirements
National Feature Section printed by gravure or offset, and Local Program Section printed by offset.

National Feature Section
TV Guide requires both digest and full size formats for color advertisements.

Digital File Requirements for Color Advertising:

Digital files should, at a minimum, be prepared in accordance with the most current GAA- and SWOP-endorsed ANSI and ISO standards for publication printing.
  • Density of Tone: Maximum 280%

Read-Me Files: All files must contain a "Read-Me" file describing the applications and versions used to compose and compress the ad page as delivered to TV Guide.

Media: Mac Formatted: 100MB Zip, 1GB Jaz, CD Rom.

Electronic file transmission is only available to advertisers that submit PDF files. Please contact TV Guide® Advertising Production Sales Support at (610) 293-8648 for more information.

Digital File Formats: PDF / Acrobat 3 or 4 (preferred and the only format accepted for electronic transmission), Quark Xpress 3 or higher, Adobe InDesign 1.5.

Desktop Element Formats:
-Fonts = Postscript only
-Graphics = EPS, Tiff.

Desktop Instructions: Use stylized fonts and do not apply style attributes to basic fonts. All elements must be placed at 100% size. Avoid rotation and cropping of image in layout program. Include all fonts, images/scans, logos/artwork. Do NOT nest EPS files within EPS files. Pantone colors must be in CMYK mode. All images/scans must be in CMYK.

TIFF/IT or TIFF/IT P-1 files are no longer an accepted file format.

Page Size: Ads must be at full bleed digest size (5.625" x 7.750") and full size (8.00" x 11.00").

Proof Requirements: Six (6) Kodak Approval proofs (color guides) are required for each digest and full size advertisement.

TV Guide cannot assume responsibility for the accurate reproduction of supplied materials that do not conform to GAA or SWOP specifications.

In no instance will TV Guide modify submitted files.

Questions regarding national feature section advertising should be directed to the TV Guide® Advertising Production Sales Support at (610) 293-8648 or Fax (610) 293-6216.

Technical questions regarding digital input should be directed to the TV Guide® Advertising Production Graphics Department at (610) 293-8433 or Fax (610) 293-6216.

Local Program Section (Black & White)
TV Guide prefers Digital Ad Files over Photographic Prints

Digital File Requirements for Black and White Advertising:

Digital input materials are preferred because they provide a more consistent and accurate printed reproduction than can be achieved with scanned material.

File Formats: PDF (strongly recommended and the only format accepted for electronic transmission). Desktop application formats accepted: QuarkXPress v3.3 and above, Adobe Illustrator v7.0 and up, Macromedia Freehand v8.0, Adobe InDesign. All elements (post script fonts only, EPS, TIFF, etc.) must be included and linked. Do not send any more files than are required to construct the page.

Media: The following media are acceptable: Zip (100Mb), Jaz (1Gb), CD-ROM (650 Mb), Floppy Disk (3.5").

Electronic file transmission is only available to advertisers that submit PDF files. Please contact TV Guide® Advertising Production Sales Support at (610) 293-8647 for more information.

Canvas Size: Digest single page ads must be centered on an 8.5"x11" canvas, Digest spread ads must be centered as a landscape on a 11"x14" canvas. Full Size ads must be centered on a 9"x12" canvas.

Proof Requirements: A laser output to be used for content only is required. The advertiser has the option to also submit a photographic print as a backup in case problems are encountered with the digital file.

TV Guide cannot assume responsibility for digital file viability. Advertisers will be notified when a digital file is unusable but production schedules may not allow sufficient time to resubmit a new digital file. If a digital file does not process correctly, the proof print will be scanned and substituted.

In no instance will TV Guide modify submitted files.

Technical questions regarding digital input should be directed to the TV Guide® Advertising Production Graphics Department at (610) 293-8433 or Fax (610) 293-6216.

Photographic prints:

Black & White reproduction copy must be in the form of photographic prints not mounted on board backing. Laser-generated proofs of 1200 dpi are acceptable for most line art instances. However, laser copy is not acceptable for any ad copy which involves halftones. If an advertiser insists on the submission of laser copy, the advertiser must accept full responsibility for the quality of the output in the printed product.
